Somali government forces backed by local militias have today recaptured a village in Middle Shabelle region.
SNA spokesman Gen. Abdullahi Ali Anod who confirmed the capture of the village said the government forces will continue to liberate the remaining areas under the control of al-Shabaab fighters.
“Somali military alongside the community defend forces have this morning liberated a strategic village in Middle Shabelle region,” Anod said.
The recapture of the village comes hours after Somali military said it forces successfully destroyed two vehicles packed with explosives in north of Somali capital, Mogadishu.
According to a statement by Somali military, the allied forces seized the Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBEIDs) during a security operation against Al-Shabaab fighters in an area near Bal’ad town.
SNA Commander Abshir Sitiqey said two vehicles were to be used for VBIED attacks by al-Shabaab.
“The forces launched operation to hunt down al-Shabaab fighters in Middle Shabelle region. We found out two vehicles laden with explosive which were to be used for attacks to massacre the civilians. The vehicles were parked in a farm on the outskirts of Bal’ad town,” Sitiqey said.
