Somali security forces have arrested two al-Shabaab members suspected to have been planning to execute assassination on the outskirts of the Somali capital.
In a statement, Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) said its forces foiled plans of the group to carry out an assassination.
The agency stated that the forces arrested the men along with weapons.
Photos published on the agency’s Twitter handles shows two pistols and a hand grenade.
The remarks come justs hours after an explosion happened at Mogadishu’s Maka Al-Mukarama.
According to sources, the blast which happened near Waberi Police Station was caused by Improvise Explosive Device (IED) fitted to a bullet-proof vehicle.
The vehicle was said to be belonged to a logistics company in Mogadishu.
The blast injured one person said to be a civilian passing near the car during the explosion.
Somali forces backed by African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) stepped up operations to smoke out al-Shabaab cells in Mogadishu and it’s environs.
Al-Shabaab lost Mogadishu in 2011 after its fighters were defeated by Somali and AU troops.
The group now controls remote areas in South and central Somalia but carries out attacks on SNA and AMISOM bases as well as explosions in major towns.
