In wake of uptick of Coronavirus case in the Horn of Africa nation, Somali prime minister Hassan Ali Kheire on Saturday assigned a veteran medical practitioner to fight against the disease.
In a Statement, the PM appointed Dr Mohamed Mohamud Fuje as the country’s Chief Medical Officer amid the country accelerates its efforts to defeat the pandemic.
The new CMO will lead medics in the fight against Coronavirus.
Dr Fuje studied at the Somali National Univ, Faculty of Medicine before proceeding to London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine at London University.
Somalia has recorded 135 Coronavirus cases since the first case of the disease was confirmed mid last month.
In the last ten days, the country has seen uptick of coronavirus cases with the records of Friday and Saturday stand at 36 and 19 respectively.
At least seven people including two lawmakers had died of coronavirus since mid March.
Close a dozen has recovered from the pandemic.
The first cases of the virus in the country was confirmed mid March after two people returned from China tested positive for the virus.
