At least 27 people were killed and over 20 others wounded in a bomb blast in Somalia’s South West State.

The explosion occurred at a football field at Muraale village in Lower Shabelle region after some residents in the area found a metallic device which they tried to use as a cooking tool but accidently went off.

“I would like to tell the people of Janaale to be cautious of old metals. If anyone finds any old rusty metallic device, they should report to authorities and not touch it to avoid such accidents,” Janaale town governor Abdrahman Yusuf Al Adala.

Some of the njuries ferried to Janaale town for treatment.

The region has recent years witnessed armed conflict between government forces and al-Shabaab militants in many areas.

The region is significantly contaminated with mines and explosive remnants of war (ERW), such as grenades, artillery shells, mortar and bombs.
