The Kenya security agencies have dismantled Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) assembled in a dump site in Carissa county.
The explosives suspected to have been concealed by al-Shabaab in an area under Ijaara were said to have been destroyed on Friday.
According to Kenyan local media, the site was also serving as a medical store for the group.
“Weapons, explosives, electronics, large amounts of black explosive powder, foodstuffs and medicine were recovered from the scene,” an intelligence brief seen by the Nation reads.
Among the medicine found at the camp was ceftriaxone, sold under the trade name Rocephin, which is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections.
The Kenyan government had declared war in al-Shabaab in 2011 after it accused the group of staging attacks inside the East Africa nation.
Thousands of Kenyan military soldiers crossed the border in Somalia claiming to be after al-Shabaab fighters.
In cooperation with Somali forces, the Kenya military managed to force al-Shabaab out Kismayu and several major towns.
Since al-Shabaab executed deadly attacks inside Kenya including Westgate, coastal area and Northeastern of the country.
Kenyan troop now operate under the framework of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
