The Canadian government has called on its citizens to leave Ethiopia immediately, according to an official statement from the country’s immigration department.
“If you are in Ethiopia, leave the country immediately. “Our ability to provide consular assistance is very limited,” the statement said.
“Avoid all travel to Ethiopia, except to Bole International Airport, ethnic clashes, civil unrest, armed conflict in the north and the risk of it spreading to new areas without warning.” added the Canadian press release.
Canada has previously banned its citizens from traveling to countries such as Afghanistan and Myanmar, which it says pose security risks.
Finally, Ethiopia has been embroiled in two years of fierce fighting between the Ethiopian Federal Government and the Tigrean Rebels, in which thousands of civilians and soldiers have been killed.
