Somali prime minister, Mohamed Hussein Roble has thanked the authorities of Puntland and Galmudug state for their commitment to fighting the al-Shabaab group in both states.

Roble who attended Galkayo Peace Book Fair remotely said authorities succeeded to improved the peace of Galkayo town.

“I thank everyone who has contributed in general and in particular to the peace process in Galkayo today, especially the two governors of Galkayo, the joint forces and various sections of the community,” the prime minister said.

Last month, both states announced that they would launch operations against al-Shabaab fighters in the Mudug region.

Puntland had sent forces to the neighbouring region of Galmudug to help the military there push al-Shabaab out of a strategic town, Amaara, they captured August.

The development came on the heel of an al-Shabaab attack on a military base in Amara.

Amara is a strategic town that lies on the route to the coastal town of Harardheere, another al Shabaab stronghold.
