Acting PM calls for an urgent investigation into Mogadishu prison break

Somalia’s caretakers Prime Minister Mahdi Mohamed Guled has on Wednesday called for speedy investigations regarding the incident at Mogadishu central prison on Monday where nineteen people lost their lives.

According to officials fifteen inmates and four guards were killed after suspected al Shabaab members serving various sentences attempted prison break.

The acting Premier met a team of five members tasked by his office to probe what happened and submit the final report within the next two weeks for legal action.

A technical committee that will liaise with the inquiry team was also established during the meeting that took place at the office of the Prime Minister to speed up the investigation process.

One prisoner arrested for being a member of al Shabaab in 2014 and sentenced to ten years in jail escaped during the confrontation and still at large.

Justice Minister Hussein Hassan Hajji vowed to boost the security of the facilities across the country in order to prevent similar incidents.
