Heavily armed al-Shabaab fighters have launched a dawn attack on US and Kenya army base in Lamu town of Kenya’s coastal town.

The attack is reported to have been started with suicide bomb which the gate of the base before the fighters forced their ways into the bases.

According to locals, heavy gunfire could be heard from US naval base known as ‘Camp Simba’ which situated in Manda Bay.

Kenya and US governments have yet commented on the attack by al-Shabaab.

In a statement posted on their affiliate media, al-Shabaab claimed the responsibility for the attack saying their fighters “took control of part of the base that is home to hundreds of US & Kenya soldiers”.
