Somali Prime Minister, Hassan Ali Kheyre met US Secretary for Treasury, Steven Munchin at the sideline of 19th Doha Forum on Sunday.
The Premier and US official discussed Washington’s role in Somalia’s efforts in the debt relief process.
The U.S. Treasury, which is owed $1 billion by Somalia, had played a role in encouraging support from other IMF members, and was in talks with Congress about steps needed to erase the big bilateral debt pile.
The Federal Government of Somalia is on the final stage set by IMF on debt cancelation process and result might come as early as February next year.
Somalia has over USD five billion in debt and it’s cancelation will be big relief for the horn of the African state.
