US claims to have intensified attacks against al-Shabaab in 2019

US military has doubled the attacks against al-Shabaab this ending year, leading to the death of high rank al-Shabaab leaders.

According to an article carried by VOA, the military carried out 47 airstrikes against al-Shabaab fighters.

US drones have hit several al-Shabaab bases in central and south Somalia.

Last year, the U.S. conducted 47 strikes and more than 30 the previous year.

The 60th strike this year occurred on December 16 in Dujuma village area in Middle Jubba region, killing one al-Shabab fighter.

The group which once controlled large swath of areas including Somali control had suffered losses after Somali military backed by AMISOM defeated the group’s fighters.

US military also conducted 13 airstrikes against Islamic States in northeastern Somalia.
