AU condemns Mogadishu truck bomb attack

The African Union has strongly condemned a truck bomb attack in the Somali capital on Saturday.

A press statement from AU headquarters in Addis Ababa on Sunday sent condolences to the people and government of Somalia.

“Our hearts and thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those killed in this horrific attack. We commiserate with the Federal Government of Somalia. We pray for the speedy healing and recovery of the injured.

The African union showed its support to the Federal Government of Somalia on this recent attack saying it will remain committed in its peace mission in the horn of the African nation.

“Our support to the Federal Government of Somalia, and our mission in Somalia will maintain its resolve and commitment to see through its mandate and to fulfill the legitimate desire of the people of Somalia to live in freedom, peace, and security.”

According to the Ministry of health and social service, at least 79 people were killed and more than 80 were wounded in the attack that targeted tax collection intersection south of the capital on a busy rush hour.

No group claimed the responsibility of the attack but the Somali government blamed armed group al-Shabaab for the attack.
