Djibouti assembly speaker wins’ leadership of Pan-African parliament

The speaker of the Djibouti national assembly, Mohamud Ali Hamud has been elected as speaker of the African parliament.

Mr. Hamud who will represent the region at the continental parliament will replace the outgoing speaker, Alassane Bala Sakande from Burkina Fasso.

He said the position is a great chance for the horn of the African states to advance their agenda at the continental level.

The Djibouti representatives said the regional countries will use the platform to progress governance and democratic development across the continent.

The new African parliament speaker, however, stressed the need for integration by the member states in various areas including the economy.

The strategic horn of the African state has been campaigning at the international arena to market itself to be part of the regional and international bodies in recent months.

Djibouti launched its bid as a non-permanent member of the UN security council seat last week in New York.
