SNA hands over two al-Shabaab suspects to Kenya

Somali National Army (SNA) has handed two al-Shabaab suspects arrested during security operations in southern Somalia to the Kenyan Government.

The duo identified as Farah Ahmed Sanbul and Mihat Daar Khalif are suspected to have taken part in an attack on Kenyan police convoy traveling near the Kenya-Somalia border.

The attack claimed the lives of 11 officers and destroyed a Landcruiser vehicle.

Police in Kenya confirmed late Thursday that Somalia had handed over the two men following their arrest.

According to North Eastern Police Commander Paul Soi, the two are in Kenyan custody.

The men were arrested with two AK47 rifles.

The AK-47 rifles had the Kenyan code which are suspected to have been stolen from one of the slain officers.

In June, 12 border police officers were killed in a similar attack close to where the latest one occurred.

In recent years, more than 100 Kenyan police have been killed in a similar manner along the porous Kenya-Somali border.
