The authorities in Somaliland have detained suspects in connection with the killing of two Ethiopian migrants this week.
Two female Ethiopian Oromo migrants were killed on the outskirts of Hargeisa after gunmen opened fire on a vehicle they travelling in.
The attack also injured two other migrants.
Somaliland deputy police Commissioner, Abdirahman Liban Fohle who confirmed the incident said the police arrested armed individuals suspected to have carried out the attack.
According to Fohle, the police also confiscated illicit alcohol during the operation to hunt down the attackers.
The commissioner did not disclose the number of suspects detained.
“The gunmen who carried out the attack were drunk. We have seized 80 litres of illicit alcohol, the police also towed both the car of the gunmen and that of the migrants,” he said.
Hundreds of Ethiopians cross over the border into Somalia to take the perilous journey to Europe and Asia.
With the help of human traffickers, the migrants, majority from Oromo community travel by boats which sail from Puntland and Somaliland coastal areas.
